More details regarding VMware Cloud on AWS are starting to come out of VMware. Tonight I attended an awesome #vBrownbag webinar on #VMWonAWS, hosted by Chris Williams (@mistwire) and Ariel Sanchez ( @arielsanchezmor).
If you’re ready to try VIO, take it for a spin with the Hands on Labs that illustrates a step-by-step walkthrough of how to deploy OpenStack in Compact Management Mode in under fifteen minutes.
Recently we (My colleague Dimitri and myself) delivered a Proof of Concept (PoC) at a customer with vRealize Automation 7. In this video, we’ve completed the imaging and initial bring up process for the VMware Cloud Foundation instance. It includes two qualified top-of-rack switches, a management switch and 12 vSAN Ready Nodes. A four-node Management Domain is in place. Now it’s time to add a new workload domain for virtual infrastructure use within the VMware Cloud Foundation instance. There is a ton of automated goodness happening under the hood during the workload domain creation phase. Watch closely and you’ll catch the tasks being orchestrated across the integrated platform.

In this video, we demonstrate imaging the primary rack in a VMware Cloud Foundation instance. We’ve deployed and configured the imaging appliance with the software bundle on a laptop that’s plugged into the management switch. From here we’ll kick off the imaging process that will deploy and perform the “first-boot” configuration of the two top-of-rack switches, the management switch, and the 12 qualified vSAN Ready Nodes in the system.
In this video, we demonstrate preparing for the VMware Cloud Foundation imaging process. We’ve downloaded the imaging appliance and the software bundle onto the laptop that’ll be plugged into the first management switch. From here we’ll set a static address on system deploy the imaging appliance, upload and then activate the bundle.

You would expect an agreement between the number one private cloud company and the number one public cloud company to make waves. You might not realize the new categories of applications the VMWare/AWS integration makes possible as your company’s online transactional processing (OLTP) and other operational functions get access to the mountains of data now residing in the cloud.
Over the past few years our customers have been asking us how they can get the developer productivity and agility of the public cloud, but with the cost, security, and control of their private data center. Photon Platform, which we are announcing today at VMworld Barcelona, delivers on this promise. In this article we’ll dig into the background of why we built Photon Platform and how it delivers on this new need for cloud native workloads.
